31 Days: It's the Disney Countdown

Hi all!
So to piggyback off of yesterday's post about Disney Crafting, today I'll talk about one of my favorite crafts- making a Disney countdown calendar! A great way to work on counting for your older wee ones too ;) And because I love planning and doing Disney-themed activities, I make TWO countdowns! Below, I'll show you...

First, let's start with some other Disney countdown crafts that you can find on Pinterest:
  • Popsicle stick countdown- decorate a jar and some popsicle sticks and write a fun activity/small gift/trivia bit on each stick! Pick out one each night, or number the sticks and pick out the corresponding number of your countdown each night. When the sticks are gone, that means your trip arrives the next day!
  • Framed countdown (with glass)- use scrapbook paper to decorate a photo frame and use a dry erase marker to countdown each night the number of days left
  • Framed countdown (without glass)- same as the above, but instead of writing the numbers each day, use interchangeable scrapbook numbers to "flip" the countdown numbers each night
  • Clothespin countdown- string up a wire or twine, print out numbers (and maybe fun corresponding activities), and clothes pin them to the line. Each night, take down the corresponding number and/or do the activity!
  • Duplo countdown- create a tower of Duplo blocks, you can use the numbered ones or use washi tape, painters tape, or masking tape and number the blocks. Have your wee ones remove the blocks each night!
  • Pingpong countdown- have a jar and fill it with ping pong balls, each with a Disney-themed activity, trivia bit, small gift, movie to watch, etc written on the ball. Have the little pick out one each night. When the balls are all gone, that means you're leaving on your trip the next day! If you have multiple littles, maybe have enough balls in there that each child can pick out a ball every night, rotate who gets to pick out the ball (good chance to teach "taking turns" or "sharing" hehe), or maybe each child even gets their own jar to pick out balls each night!
  • Sticker countdown- print out a simple page of numbers, and have your little put a sticker on the number each night as they countdown the days. A great cheap and easy countdown!
  • Princess chain countdown- your traditional paper chain countdown, made with colored construction paper and the child rips off a link each night. Dress up the last link as your child's favorite princess or Mickey/Minnie!
  • Monorail countdown- print out a picture of a monorail, Disney castle, and create some monorail "tracks." The kids can move the monorail down the track each night, closer to the castle! You could do this instead with a car (if you're road tripping to Disney) or a plane (if you're flying)!
  • Block countdown- using some scrapbook paper decorate the sides of wooden blocks and add numbers. Each day, you rotate the blocks to countdown the number of days left!
  • Magnet countdown- use some scrapbook paper and/or sticker numbers, decorate small pieces of paper and number them. Attach a small magnet to the back of each paper and put them on the fridge or magnetic tray. Each night, take that day number's magnet off!
  • Magnet countdown #2- Attach a simple numbered piece of paper to a magnetic surface (fridge, tray, etc). Each night, cover that day's number with a magnet to "cross out" the number.
  • Countdown wreath- create a Disney-themed wreath, string some twine across the open center and clothespin numbers up, rotating out the numbers each day as you countdown!

You can see all the above ideas and more on my Pinterest Countdown board, which you can also see at the bottom of the post! Now on to my personal countdowns...

31 Days: Disney Crafting

Hi all!
Today I'll give you some ideas of fun Disney crafts you can do! If Disney Family Movie Nights aren't quite your thing, maybe you can do some crafting together as a family instead, to help pass the time before your big Disney trip!

  • make a Disney Savings Jar, like the one above! Just a container, some twine, Disney die cuts, wash tape, and you've a fun way to save up for your trip!
  • create matching Disney t-shirts for your trip- from iron on transfers to bleach spraying, there's shirt-making techniques for ALL crafty levels. If creating one yourself isn't your thing, support another family by checking out Etsy for TONS of great shirts and pick some shirts out together as a family!
  • make a Disney-themed wreath! buy supplies at the Dollar Store and have fun :) If it's near a holiday, your wreath can do double duty (think Christmas wreath, or theme it with Disney couples for Valentine's Day, etc)
  • feeling girly? do Mickey or Minnie pedicures! Stencil on Mickey heads or do pink with white polka dots for an easy Disney touch!
  • make Autograph Books- there are printables available online for super-simple crafty creations, buy some Disney scrapbook paper, or for the more advanced, use your Cricut to cut out tons of fun characters!
  • make Memory Books- print out some pages for free online, decorate a regular notebook with washi tape, or go crazy making a mini scrapbook album!
  • create a Disney castle with Duplos! simply put some Disney-themed washi tape on some blocks and build away :)
  • sew a purse or backpack! Buy some Disney-themed fabric and get to sewing! This could be a great first-project for any child, it could even be hand-sewn in a pinch! Not your thing? Again, you could support another family by shopping on Etsy! Let your littles pick out their own bag
  • Princess or Prince/Pirate sensory play- set up a sensory bin using Duplo or Fisher Price Little People princesses/princes/pirates. A GREAT play time for little ones!
  • create Disney necklaces and/or bracelets! Keep it cheap and easy by using pony beads and perhaps some simple charms, or go big with all sorts of fancy decorations! I prefer just using elastic for my littles, but older kids may be ready to try their hand at jewelry-making by using wire and clasps!
  • make some Disney-themed hair clips, headbands, or bow ties! Theme the colors to your little one's favorite princes or princesses :) You can put your creation on a bow tie clip, a hair clip, or a headband! I love putting them on hair clips and then clipping the clips on a soft headband to quickly switch up the headband design :)
  • Disney coloring pages- there are TONS online available for free. Super easy craft, and you could even work on their pre-writing or motor skills by using tracing printables, do-a-dots, or scissor skills sheets!
  • make Disney Peg People! A fun craft for you and slightly older little ones to do together! Purchase paints, brushes, and wooden pegs and decorate them like princes and princesses or even pirates!
  • create Disney-themed vinyl crafts! There are a bunch of fun, easy crafts that you can use vinyl for- decorate water bottles, bins, notebooks, cups, photo frames, the list goes on... You can purchase rolls of vinyl at most craft stores or online and cut them out yourself, or use your Cricut!
  • make personalized luggage tags- use scrapbook paper and stickers to make your own tags. Then laminate them (or use clear packing tape) and thread with thick ribbon!
These are just a few ideas to get the ball rolling! Use Google or Pinterest and you'll find a TON of other ideas for a great family Disney night of crafting. Check out my Pinterest board below for more ideas!!

31 Days: Autumn Festivities Tracker

Good afternoon, friends! And happy Saturday!
Welcome to today's FREE printable I'm sharing for you to add to your Holiday Planner, if you'd like! We're spending the month preparing a Holiday Planner to help organize everything for the fall & winter holidays. If you are new to this 31 day series, check out my beginning post...

Below is a FREE blank printable where you can fill in all of your favorite crafts to make and movies to watch during the autumn season! It could probably go without saying, but I've included this printable in my Holiday Planner under the Autumn divider tab!

I don't know about you, but Pinterest is my go-to place to quickly find ideas for crafts and DIY projects, but there's also nothing that beats curling up with a good magazine for inspiration! What do you hope to make this season- crafts with the little ones, a few festive decor pieces to bring the fall season indoors, a great vignette in the front entry way or porch?

Here are a few things that are on my "To Make" list to get the creative juices flowing! And feel free to check out my Pinterest "Holiday: Autumn" board to get even more ideas!
  • Fall wreath
  • Autumn subway tile printable
  • Fall hair clips for the babies
  • Pressed leaf bunting
  • Autumn-inspired pages for our felt quiet book
  • Autumn sensory bin for the toddler
  • Citrus & clove pomanders
  • DIY fabric pumpkins

With the cooler weather rolling in, fall is one of my favorite times to snuggle under a blanket on the couch, perhaps with a cup of hot tea or apple cider, and take in a good movie with the family! While the kids are napping, watching a movie also a great time to snuggle up with the hubby and get in a little in-house "date night" too!

Here are some family & adult movies that are perfect for the Autumn season, and some that just have a "fall feel" to them in our opinion! What other movies would you add to your "To Watch" list?
  • It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
  • Pocahontas
  • Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day
  • Pooh's Heffalump Halloween Movie
  • Boo to You Too! Winnie the Pooh
  • The Adventures of Ichabod & Mr. Toad
  • Hotel Transylvania
  • House of Mouse Villians
  • Lord of the Rings trilogy
  • The Hobbit series
  • Sherlock Holmes movie series

( Download your FREE printable here )

As a bonus, to go with  your "to watch" list, turn it into a Family Movie Night! Feel free to check out my post about creating a whole themed meal and decor to go with your movie viewing and get the free printable (and others!) you see below!

holiday planner

So here is my holiday planner! Pretty, huh? Well, I think so ;) I should have taken a photo before I put it into the cover.... overlooked that... but it was a slow process to get it wedged in there so I didn't wanna take it back out to photograph :-/ Some of the last photos here I had to adjust the coloring to reduce the glare, but all in all it photographed OK!

And I'll be updating this to post links to the insides here too! I've even made them printables so you can grab a copy for yourself if you'd like! So here we go....
Check back often because coming soon is...
Ornament Memory Journaling Squares
Holiday Cleaning List
Gift Giving Idea Planner
Christmas Card Planner
Gift Closet Inventory List

So this is the first of a few posts where I'll share my planner with you! I'll share the dividers and the charts and lists over the next week or two. Some things I'll post over on my {crafting blog} and leave a link on here for ya :) Anyhoo, on to the cover!

Started out with a binder I already had laying around. Love love LOVE my new PTI stamps, this is from their All Booked Up set. I'll have some more projects comin up soon using that set too, so keep an eye out ;) I love Christmas papers, and am always afraid of using them all up, so this was the perfect solution! I took scraps of some of my favorite papers and put them behind the planner label! Toped it off with some MS twine, Recollections gems, and another PTI stamp from their 2009 Holiday Tags. This planner is really for next year- it will run from Sept. through Dec. including Fall Harvest, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years holidays {so as you can see, it's a bit late to be using for this year!}. Actually, I'll be able to use some of my lists as we're hosting Christmas for our families, which I'm wicked excited about!! Fun projects to come, no doubt, so keep an eye out for those coming soon too!! So anyhoo, the gems and general decor for the album tries to combine both fall and Christmas colors,

Here's the binding of the album... used up some more scraps, oh! And the great hunter green paper is SU! The gold shimmer paper is Making Memories :)

Here's a perfect example of blending the two major holiday seasons- fall and winter. I tried to transition the fall leaf punches into the snowflake punches {both MS, by the way} and added in a few Recollections gold pearls- perfect for both fall and Christmas.

Here's a close up of the verse in the corner- from PTI's Silent Night. Everything comes from the Lord and so every season holds something to be thankful to Him for- thus I thought this a wholly appropriate quote for the planner :)

Well, that about wraps up this post- if you're still with me, thanks for comin along for the tour of my planner cover ;) hehe. I'll be sharing the insides soon, so stay tuned!!

elephant alphabet baby shower

So I hosted my friend's baby shower last year {originally featured on SK Studios} and wanted to share the photos!! It's a grey & yellow "Elephant Alphabet" theme {they didn't know the gender}.

Click on any photo to bring up a larger photo!

Favor cake: inspiration from Dicut Diva. Note the little elephant sock under the cake :D It rattles too... hehe! I had cute baby rub-ons on the cake, but when I assembled them, I realized they were on the wrong side- whoops! So I used the Hero Arts baby feet stamp on the tops. I handmade the elephant on top- loved them!

Made this in Photoshop. Framed it with a simple white frame from Michaels. Original inspiration found on stem parties.

The guestbook, where guests could leave words of wisdom for the mamma-to-be!

Game cards I made up: Baby Bingo {where you fill in with items you think each guest gave as a gift} and Baby Word Scramble. Just whipped these up super quick in Word.

Towel cake- top layer is onesies surrounded with burp cloths, bottom is a baby blanket I made {see post here} surrounded by burp cloths. Here's the second elephant I sewed, so cute :)

Baby letters I found in a discount bin at Michaels- painted them up in the party colors

Cupcakes made from scratch- third ever attempt at doing fancy icing with a piping bag :D dyed the icing deep yellow and sprinkled with grey sugar glitter

Altered tea tins, we stuck a few gerber daisies in each and guests got to bring them home as door prizes! We had to cut the bottom off plastic cups and stick them inside the bottom of each tin to hold water for the flowers- we found out the hard way that the tins themselves are not designed to hold liquids :P

toddler treats booklet

Here's a little booklet I put together for one of the new mother's in our company... well not really new since her wee one was born last summer (hence the "toddler" part), but we're just welcoming her now :) It's a collection of recipes of pretty easy snacks and such to make at home.

The cover is various scrapbook papers glued together and some decorative brads, binded with eyelets and ribbon. The insides are again scrapbook paper with decorative ribbons, flowers, and staples! Super simple :)
